We are growing older—in a good way
The average age span of an American at the turn of the twentieth century was 46 years. In 1967 the average longevity for an American male grew to 68. Today it’s close to passing 80.
In just the last few decades, extraordinary efforts have been made into looking at the actual mechanisms which cause us to age and how to slow this process down. This has become a major focus of the work of Immunotec.
For over a dozen years, the scientific community has recognized Immunocal as a key product in the field of immune system support. Now, to meet the health needs of a maturing population, the scientists at Immunotec have enriched this industry-standard bonded cysteine supplement and developed Immunocal Platinum.
Immunocal Platinum stems from focusing on the aging process ands includes the highlight ingredients:
- Immunocal whey protein isolate. This is not just any whey protein isolate. This patented isolate from whey is specially prepared to provide a rich source of bioavailable cysteine, the major building block (precursor) for your body’s ability to make glutathione. In common processing, these proteins may be broken down (denatured) so the cysteine availability is greatly decreased and glutathione production is hampered. Immunocal preserves these important precursors in their natural non-denatured state. The isolate in the Platinum product is even more refined than the original to provide increased health supportive benefits.
- Cytokine Modulating Proteins (CMP™*). This represents the next generation of whey protein subfractions. Cytokines are proteins used to coordinate the body’s immune response to infectious agents and help manage normal cellular growth. Cytokines also act as signals in the immune system to turn on or off inflammation. Through proprietary isolation technology, Immunocal has been enriched to provide a new level of immune support available exclusively in Immunocal Platinum. These components play roles in repairing cell damage, promoting healthy cell differentiation and growth, and inhibiting abnormal cell growth. Most importantly, CMP can modulate the inflammatory response in cells and tissues.

- Redox Modulating Formula (RMF). RMF is a proprietary blend of creatine and a citrate complex including potassium, magnesium, calcium and citric acid. This unique blend of minerals, electrolytes, citrates and creatine supports natural pH balance in the body. The creatine further helps to maintain optimal lean body muscle mass. These features can be especially beneficial if a person eats a high-protein diet, seeks to lose weight, or regularly engages in strenuous exercise.
RMF is an exclusive development from Immunotec’s senior researcher, Dr. Wulf Dröge. Dr. Dröge draws upon decades of research into aging, immunology and redox physiology. The challenge of neutralizing the potential increase in acid production in individuals ingesting high amounts of protein or with aging kidneys has been successfully resolved with the Redox Modulating Formula. RMF helps maintain strong bones by preventing calcium loss, and helps maintain proper muscle function and a strong immune system.
In short, Immunocal Platinum provides triple action for immune health: 1) raising glutathione represents defensive immunity, 2) cytokine modulating proteins representing reparative immunity, and 3) attention to the proper acid-base balance helps lead to sustained immunity.
Meet the Scientists Behind Immunotec
Behind Immunotec and Immunocal is a stellar team of researchers and doctors, including world-renowned scientists Dr. Gustavo Bounous and Wulf Dröge, who are internationally respected and recognized as the top in their fields of study. Along with them is a product development team that insures that Immunotec’s products are tested and proven to give you the benefits you want and need.
Dr. Gustavo Bounous, MD
Dr. Bounous discovered Immunocal. The studies he started in 1978 on the discovery and development of a dietary protein source from whey concentrate have become the standard by which all other whey products are measured.
Educated at the University of Turin and the University of Genoa in his native Italy, Dr. Gustavo Bounous’ distinguished career in medical research began as a Research Fellow in surgery at the Indiana Medical Center, Indianapolis. In 1963, he moved to Canada and began an academic career that led him to become Professor of Surgery, first at the University of Sherbrooke (1973-1985) and then at McGill University (1985-1993).
Dr. Bounous was awarded the 1965 medal of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He pioneered the use of elemental diets in the prophylaxis and treatment of intestinal lesions associated with shock, intestinal ischemia, radiation, cancer chemotherapy and Crohn’s disease. In 1968, he was named Career Investigator of the Medical Research Council, an award that was reconfirmed until 1993, the year of his retirement from McGill University.
In 1978, Dr. Bounous initiated a novel research program in conjunction with a colleague from the McGill University Faculty of Medicine to search for a dietary protein source that would boost the immune system. Their research led to the discovery of an undenatured serum milk concentrate that sustains normal glutathione levels and promotes immunoenhancing and anticarcinogenic activity. Subsequent identification of the active ingredients present in this protein mixture led to the development of a high-quality bioactive material given the name and trademark Immunocal®/HMS 90® in 1993.
In addition to being honored as a Career Investigator of the Canadian Research Council, Dr. Bounous is a recipient of the Medal of Royal College of Physicians and a lifetime member of the Research Council of Canada. His pioneering work in natural glutathione precursors is still quoted and referenced world-wide.
Dr. Wulf Dröge, Ph.D.
Dr. Wulf Dröge was actively engaged in the design of clinical studies and organized research activities in cooperation with colleagues at McGill University and other leading scientific institutions.
After his doctorate at the University of Freiburg, Dr. Dröge conducted research at the Max-Planck Institute of Immunobiology in Freiburg, Germany, and the University of Minnesota, with renowned immunologist Dr. R.A. Good. Afterwards, he served for three years as a research fellow at Harvard University and for four years as a scientific member at the world-renowned Basel Institute for Immunology.
What followed was an almost 30 year career as a professor of immunology and cell biology at the University of Heidelberg and head of the Department of Immunochemistry at the National Cancer Center of Germany (Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum). His international reputation in the field of redox physiology and aging research is based on more than 280 publications in international scientific journals. His research focused on the areas of redox regulation and signaling pathways, pathogenesis of HIV infection, the mechanisms of disease-related wasting and aging, and the action of tumor necrosis factor.
A world-renowned research scientist, Dr. Dröge devoted more than forty years to basic and clinical research that set the standard for the formulation of safe and effective new Immunotec products.
He earned postdoctoral fellowships at the Max-Planck Institute and Harvard University and published many articles in the fields of redox physiology, cancer and aging research and was an adjunct professor at McGill University.
